Get Involved in Women’s Squash Week between 23rd-29th September.

13 September 2019

Women’s Squash Week is an international celebration of squash and an invitation to women across the world to try squash or come back to it. As many of you know, we love Squash here at Club Towers and are really passionate about getting as many people playing this brilliant sport as we can so we are very happy to support the week.

Squash is a fantastic, fun sport to play but also shouldn’t be overlooked as a form of exercise. It’s a great way to get fit, improve your hand-eye coordination and agility, alleviate stress and, as your game progresses, a real mental workout too. When playing competitively you can burn more calories playing squash than most other sports. It’s playable all year round, and as we head into Autumn and Winter coming inside to play may be an extra attraction! Squash is very social and can be a great way to meet new people. Hopefully we’ve enticed you enough to want to pick up a racquet and find out more!

During Women’s Squash Week we will be running a series of events, all of which are open to both racquets and non-racquets members:

  • Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th – Start-rite Squash sessions at 7.15pm. Come and join in these free coaching sessions for beginners and learn the basics of the game.
  • Thursday 26th – Social Squash morning, 11am – 12.30pm, players of all abilities very welcome to join other players for some friendly games. Our coach Ed will be on hand to play and offer coaching tips or answer any questions you may have. It would be great to see more ladies come to this.
  • Friday 27th – Prosecco and Squash night with former world number 8 Jenny Tranfield – We are excited to announce that Jenny (who was ranked World No.8 in 2005) will be joining us from 6.30pm. Come down and play with her and other ladies anytime between 6.30pm and 8pm. Please do stay and have a glass or two of Prosecco on us in the Club Lounge afterwards.

Junior members aged 14 and over are also very welcome at any of the above sessions. For those girls under 14, we run our Saturday morning coaching (aged 8 and over, 9.30 – 10am and aged 4-7, 10.15 – 11am) and we always welcome new players. If you have a child who is keen to try, please do encourage them to come along to the sessions.

Please don’t feel you need to invest in lots of equipment or clothing, if you are keen to try the sport but have never played before, we have racquets and balls that you can borrow when in the Club. If you do fall in love with Squash (as we are sure you will) we can advise you on the right type of racquet for you. Normal sportswear is absolutely fine to wear, whatever is comfortable for you. We do ask you wear non-marking trainers, we are very proud of our courts and the condition we keep them in and work hard to ensure they stay that way. If you aren’t sure what non-marking means, please do ask any of the Reception team who will be very happy to help. This blog piece may also help – http://clubtowers.com/the-importance-of-wearing-correct-footwear-2/

We have a great set of coaches here at the Club, so if you’ve not played before but keen to get back into the game, they will also be on hand throughout the week to advise or you can book one to one coaching with them.

All the above can be booked with our Reception team who can also help if you require any more information or would just like to talk to someone about it. We hope to see lots of you on the courts during the week!
