Charity Spinathon raises over £4000!

12 March 2020

Last Saturday over 50 members and instructors joined us for our Charity Spinathon and we are delighted to announce we have raised £4175.25 (£4724.01 with gift aid)  for our member chosen, local charities Bedfordshire Sands and CHUMS. This was nearly double our original target for the event!

Instructors Jason, Emma and Natalie led the five classes and we were very lucky to be joined by a guest instructor, National Presenter and Gold Schwinn standard Rebecca Sharrock, who led the second class. Members then joined us in the Club Lounge for a celebratory and well-earned buffet! All instructors gave their time for free and the Club provided the buffet and fuelling station refreshments, so every penny donated has gone straight to the charities. Special thanks must go to Jason Martindale for organising the event and “gently” encouraging members to join us!

We would like to thank every member who took part, whether for one class or all five – you all helped make the afternoon a brilliant success. There so was much energy, kindness and good spirit coming from the studio, it was heart-warming to see and hear! Thanks to them and the generosity of their friends, family and our other members we’ve raised a wonderfully staggering amount that will mean so much to the two charities. Here’s a little about what they do:

Bedfordshire Sands is a volunteer group that does invaluable work supporting families grieving for the loss of a baby, whilst CHUMS is a mental health and emotional wellbeing service for children and young people in Bedfordshire helping so many in our community both in schools and at home.

We look forward to presenting both charities with a large cheque at the end of our fundraising year (August 2020) as we know the money will make such a difference to so many local people. We also hope that those members who were quite new to group cycling, have got the bug and we hope to see you in classes in the Club again soon.

It’s not too late to donate if you would still like to – https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Team/ClubTowersSpinathon2020

Here’s a few photos from the day. See if you can spot the costume changes from Di and Emma, the birthday boy Neil and our two junior helpers!

Here’s to next year!
