We are delighted to announce that we will be adding Boxercise™ to our group exercise timetable from September. Jan Kawka, one of our most experienced PT’s, has recently qualified and will be taking the classes. As it’s new to the Club we thought we would tell you about the class and what it entails.
Boxercise™ is an exercise concept based on the training methods using by boxers. Sessions typically involve hitting focus
pads, but no class involves hitting an opponent! It is a fun, challenging and safe workout which is great for stress busting, and is accessible to all ages and fitness levels. Boxercise started in 1992 and since then they have trained over 25,000 professionals in 35 countries.
Classes will be 55 minutes long, starting with a 10-15 minute warm up, followed by 10-15 minutes of a circuit style workout, similar to our gym floor workout. Then we will move onto the pad work, before finishing with a 10 minute warm down. Jan comments: “This is a superb low impact, full body cardio workout that will enhance your hand-eye co-ordination, strengthen muscles and improve core strength. Through the pad work you will be paired but can go at your own speed. There’s no music to keep up with, so whatever your fitness level or ability you can go at the pace that suits you and you will still get a lot out of the class. You will learn technique as we go through and I’m on hand throughout the whole class to help and advise. It’s also worth mentioning that exercises can be adapted with this class, so please do let me know if you have any concerns.”
Member David Niblett (pictured below with Jan) has been working with Jan for several months now and when asked about Boxercise™, here’s what he had to say. “I had been having PT sessions with Jan when I discovered that he used to box and so asked him to start integrating it into my training. I loved it from the start! It’s a fantastic form of exercise that is a full body workout. As you are focusing on the technique you forget you are doing exercise which is something that I really liked. I find it’s also a great mental workout as well as a physical one, and it really helps with my balance and poise. I can recommend to everyone to give it a try and bet they will become addicted as I have done!”
As with all classes it’s important to stay hydrated, so do bring a bottle of water, but don’t gulp, sip as we go! Gloves will be provided but do feel free to bring your own if you prefer.
Boxercise™ will be on Tuesday mornings at 9am and on Thursday evenings at 6pm from week commencing 16th September and can be booked online in the usual way a week before each class. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Jan on firstname.lastname@example.org
