Another Fantastic Year of Charity Fundraising at Club Towers

20 August 2019

Every year we ask members to nominate and then choose two charities which we, as a Club, will support over a year. The charities chosen for 2018-2019 were Bedford Open Door and Bedford Hospital’s Charity and we are delighted to announce that our generous members and staff supported events and raised £8,526.64. This amount will be split equally between the two charities. In order to reach this total, we organised several events throughout the year including coffee mornings, a spinathon and our main event – the Summer Charity Ball.

Bedford Open Door is a charity that provides free and confidential counselling to young people aged 13-25 in Bedford and the surrounding areas. The counselling is provided by a team of qualified and experienced volunteers. Michele Flynn and Steve Gardner from the charity came into the Club so that we could present the cheque to them (pictured above).

Michele Flynn, Operations Director at the charity, commented: “We are so grateful to everyone at Club Towers – you have raised such an impressive sum! As a local charity we rely heavily on donations and this generous support will make a big difference to our charity, enabling us to continue to offer our free and confidential counselling to local young people. Thank you from all at Bedford Open Door.”

Bedford’s Hospital Charity (recently renamed to Bedford Hospital Charity & Friends) raises money for improvements and additions to Bedford Hospital supporting its patients and staff. Rob Oakley and Debbie Inskip also came into the Club to represent the charity and be presented their cheque (also pictured above).

Rob Oakley, Vice-Chair at BHC, thanked our members: “This is absolutely fantastic news! £4,263 for each of your selected charities is a tremendous fund-raising achievement, and we would like to express our sincere thanks to all the staff and members of Club Towers.” He went onto say: “Club Towers is pretty unique as a gym in encouraging both staff and members to fundraise for charity and as a member myself, it is great to see so many people taking part in the various charitable activities throughout the year. This money is a huge boost towards our 30th Anniversary Appeal, which aims to raise half a million pounds to purchase much needed, specialist equipment for the benefit of everyone in Bedford.”

Steve Davies, our general manager, said “Giving back to the local community is really important for us here at the Club and we thank our members for their generosity in being a part of this. We are very pleased that the amount we raised will make a difference to the two charities and help support local people.”

More information on the charities and the valuable work they do can be found on their websites http://www.bedfordopendoor.org.uk/ and http://www.bedfordhospitalcharity.org.uk/
